Who We Are

The Finger Lakes Woodturners (FLWT) Association, Inc. is a non-profit organization with over 150 members of all skill levels operating in the Rochester, NY area. FLWT is a group of men and women from many different backgrounds who have come together with a common interest in turning on a wood lathe. FLWT is a chapter of the American Association of Woodturners. Our purpose is to provide a forum whereby members can gather to promote safe turning practices; exchange ideas; share information, techniques, and experiences; teach; learn; and provide inspiration. Membership in the association is open to any and all who are interested in the use of the lathe. FLWT is operated by member volunteers who make up our Board of Directors.

What We Do

Along with old and new business, a typical meeting has a show and share of member projects and a demo of a specific project or technique. A newsletter which includes tips, techniques, and pertinent woodturning information is sent to members most months. Several additional hands-on workshops and demos are also sponsored by the association throughout the year. If a member needs specific help with a technique or project, FLWT sponsors a mentor program that very often may have just right expertise to address that need. In addition, FLWT provides help, projects, and materials to needy groups and organizations within the greater Rochester community, including the St. Michael's wood shop program, where several members volunteer each week with the student program at the Woodshop.

When We Meet

We meet in person each month, normally on the 3rd Thursday of the month, starting at 6:45 pm and going until 9:00 pm. Once or twice a year we might shift to Friday when hosting a national turner. The web site will always have the correct details for upcoming meetings. If you are interested in learning more about Finger Lakes Woodturners, you are welcome to attend our next monthly meeting for free.
